Overview
- Dates: Annually on May 1 – 31
- Cost: Free
- What it is: Statewide birding competition during Nebraska Bird Month
- Who it is for: Everyone! All ages and skill levels
- Participation: Gather teammates or go solo, register and record bird sightings on eBird
- Prizes: Participants will win prizes such as Vortex binoculars and a $1,000 cash prize!

How to Participate
1. Read the Nebraska Birding Bowl rules
2. Choose a category that fits your interest:
- Fledgling Flock
- Backyard Birder
- Dabbling Birder
- Competitive Birder
3. Form a Team (or Go Solo) – One adult (18+) required per team
4. Register (April through May 31, 2025) – All adult team members must register
5. Create an eBird Account – Tutorial available below
6. Go Birding! – Submit checklists via eBird throughout May
Share Your Adventure! – Post on Facebook & Instagram using #NEBirdingBowl.
Winners Announced via email, website, and social media.
Register
Before registering, please read the rules, select a team name and one category your team is competing in. All adult members of a team must register to compete in the Nebraska Birding Bowl. Registration will open on April 1, 2025.
T-shirts
Online donations of $30 or more to the Nebraska Wildlife Conservation Fund (WCF) between April and May, 2025, will receive a limited edition Nebraska Birding Bowl t-shirt, available while supplies last.
Donations support projects like the conservation of important bird habitats, and a variety of at-risk and nongame bird research and monitoring projects. The following projects were supported by the WCF:
- Nebraska ovenbird research
- Birds of Nebraska – Ovenbird
Please note: T-shirts from April donations will be shipped in early May. T-shirts from May donations will be shipped in early June.
